What happens with all of this special knowledge that Ocacia has accumulated in our short journey. Yesterday, we found this new cool way to cut that increase speed by 10%, it may not sound like a lot but if you keep doing this over the years all of these little innovations add up. We have so many ways to make clothes, so many ways to develop websites, make big production videos on a budget, color correct photos, and so many cool workflows, and work ethics stored up here. What happens to all of that when we are no more? It dies here! Common African story.

But in Europe and Asia, it does not die with one personality or one company. It lives on and is passed down in documents and institutionalized ways of doing things. Companies are inherited and grow. Generally speaking in Africa there is no true value placed on knowledge like that. So every generation must come and find its path again and again. Just like we had to come out of nothing, and find our mission (Fanon paraphrased).

We have a very poor culture of preserving our institutions. If you go to The Gambia today, despite is historical musical traditions, there is next to nothing you could call formal. We have no Juliards despite such a rich history in music. I know one music school which has only now got created. So in the last 1000 years, not much has happened. And we do not get it, we do not seem to have the mental framework to understand knowledge and preserve it. But some of our ancestors did especially in the Nile Valley, Islamic West Africa, and Ethiopia. it explains why I need Ken Burns and other jazz writers of European heritage and Carol Beckwith to teach us about our own culture and Angela Fisher to preserve images of our people. Sad state of affairs is too weak an expression to do justice to our global crisis.

And added to this is the denial that our victimology creates. Where there is no way what I just said is true. Either creating institutions are Eurocentric or "you do not understand the legacy of colonialism" are offered up to counter the obvious. But here is the problem with all of that. That excuse aka explanation can be used for eternity until nothing is left to save. It requires no action on the part of those who use it.
