Malangatana Modern African design honors the great African artist Malangatana (1936 – 2011) by showing the importance of color in the African aesthetic. This stunning top is available for all ages. We can even make it for ladies. It comes with a placket made from bazin, and sleeves and the back made from ramie linen. The pocket and collar are optional.

This is a lightweight top and is perfect for special occasions. The fabric is unique to Ocacia and when it is exhausted that collection will come to an end.

Did you know: Ngwenya also helped to start a number of cultural institutions in Mozambique, and was a founder of the Mozambican Peace Movement. He was awarded the Nachingwea Medal for his Contribution to Mozambican Culture, and was made a Grande Oficial da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique. In 1997 he was named a UNESCO Artist for Peace[9] and received a Prince Claus Award.

On his art: Art from Portuguese-speaking Africa has arguably remained peripheral within these broader developments and art historical discussions, although the work of one figure, the Mozambican painter Malangatana Valente Ngwenya (1936–2011), commonly known as Malangatana, stands as an exception. My scholarship on Malangatana seeks to position the artist as a decolonial subject within the national and transnational contexts preceding and following political independence in Mozambique
